Highlights from the Regular Board Meeting: December 2025

The Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) Board of Trustees opened its December 15 regular meeting with a celebration of progress across the district.

The Sights & Sounds Around SBISD presentation featured the recent groundbreaking at Terrace Elementary School, a 2017 Bond Program project that marks the beginning of a new chapter for the more than 50-year-old campus. The standing-room-only event reflected strong community pride as families, staff, and leaders celebrated the future construction of a new, state-of-the-art Terrace Elementary School.

The Board next recognized employees through the IAMSBISD Awards, honoring staff members who went above and beyond during a critical student medical emergency just before Thanksgiving Break.

Honorees included Transportation team members Layla Gonzalez, Tommy Martinez, Sandra Moreno, and Sylve Shannon; Spring Oaks Middle School staff members Nurse Lee Cantos, Campus Dean Daniel Nunnery, Assistant Principal Justin Wheeler, Lead Instructional Specialist Lesli Brown, and Principal Mary Lou Davalos; and SBISD Police Department members Sergeant Sandra Moreno, Corporal Ed Burnett, and Sergeant Victor Hill. Trustees expressed deep gratitude for their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to Every Child.

Student achievement was also celebrated with recognition of Spring Woods High School (SWHS) and Guthrie Center students who earned 2025 Lone Star Chapter Student Production Awards. The Board welcomed Spring Woods High School journalism teacher and SBISD 2025 Secondary Teacher of the Year Joshua Ault, along with Guthrie Center teacher Horacio Rodriguez, who shared highlights of the awards and recognized their outstanding student honorees.

The Board then recognized Memorial High School Principal Lisa Weir as a recipient of the Texas Music Educators Association Distinguished Administrator Award. The honor followed remarks from Danielle Prontka, assistant principal at Stratford High School, who spoke on behalf of Matthew Chan, Memorial High School lead orchestra conductor and the award nominator.

The recognition portion of the meeting concluded with honors for Wilchester Elementary Health Fitness teacher Brendan Thompson, recipient of the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (TAHPERD) Emerging Professional Award. Thompson was recognized for his leadership, enthusiasm, and dedication to inspiring confidence and lifelong fitness in students. District leaders Liz Goodman, Houston Hayes, and Pamela Johnson joined him for the recognition.
